WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF AVIATION TO HIGHLIGHT NEW FLORIDA PROGRAMS DURING SUN ‘N FUN EXPO
Officials from Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation and WMU’s Punta Gorda and Tampa locations will highlight the University’s recently approved aviation programs being offered in Florida and share a virtual reality experience of WMU’s flight fleet during the Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-in Expo, April 4-9, in Lakeland, Florida.
This fall WMU will begin offering aviation flight science and aviation management and operations programs in Florida. The University recently gained approval by the Higher Learning Commission and Florida’s Commission for Independent Education to operate regional locations in Punta Gorda and Riverview near Tampa.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to display WMU’s flight fleets using the latest and most up-to-date technologies and share information about WMU’s aviation programs that will be available this fall in Punta Gorda and online,” said Tom Thinnes, WMU’s College of Aviation director of recruitment.
WMU partnered with Hollywood-based, Emmy award-winning Mandt Bros. Productions to produce the video for the first-ever VR experience for a collegiate aviation program. The video, which uses a smart phone and is viewed through an interactive headset that fully encases a viewer’s vision, will immerse participants in the sights and sounds found at the College of Aviation.
In addition to witnessing one of the most sophisticated flight fleets in all of collegiate aviation, participants will also take a virtual tour of WMU's campus. This virtual experience includes the newly renovated aviation maintenance labs, the state-of-the-art instructional flight simulators, and much more.
