EAA AirVenture – July 26, 2016 – Aero Electric Aircraft Corp. (AEAC), the developer of the solar-electric “Sun Flyer” flight trainer, today announced Electro.Aero, located in Perth, Western Australia, is the first Sun Flyer distributorship for Australia. The agreement also covers the Asia Pacific region.
Electro.Aero, which is focused exclusively on commercializing electric aircraft, will also do final assembly and maintenance and establish service centers for Sun Flyer aircraft customers within their territory.
George Bye, CEO of AEAC, said he is pleased to see the type of attention Sun Flyer is receiving from all over the world. “I would like to thank Joshua Portlock, Founder and Executive Chairman of Electro.Aero, for his vision and interest in electric propulsion for general aviation aircraft,” Bye said.
“It is quite an honor to be a part of this pioneering project that will revolutionize general aviation. Australia and Asia Pacific is one of the largest growth sectors for pilot training, so we are keen to help advance the transition to environmentally sustainable aviation, through this Sun Flyer distributorship.” Portlock said.
Sun Flyer is intended to be the first FAA-certified, U.S.-sponsored, practical, all-electric airplane to serve the flight training and general aviation markets. It features a remarkably low operating cost, low aircraft unit cost, low noise and the elimination of exhaust pollutants. Energy, or “fuel,” cost for Sun Flyer is only about $1 of electricity for each hour of flight, compared to $25 to $65 per hour for piston-engine leaded avgas.
The 2-seat proof of concept prototype for the Sun Flyer solar-electric flight is completing final integration and will soon begin power-on tests at its home station at Centennial Airport near Denver. The prototype is on display at Booth 66 during EAA AirVenture week.
