Pipistrel saves Piper from Certain Death
Veteran pilot Greg Lawrence who is deaf (callsign DeafHawk) has been involved with service dogs for the past 20 years, has been flying for 50 years and wanting a new challenge has recently become involved with Pilots N Paws program.

In July of this year Greg undertook his first rescue picking up “Piper”, a 28 pound, 1-year-old, mixed breed dog from Bainbridge Georgia. Piper was flown to Tampa Florida for medical treatment and then adopted to her “forever home”.

Piper traveled in style in a beautiful Pipistrel Sinus Touring Motor Glider accompanied by Greg’s service dog Tee who is used to sharing time in the cockpit. Tee showed Piper that it’s OK for dogs to fly and according to Greg the entire flight went smoothly with a cruise speed of 110 knots @ 40 mpg above a broken cloud layer and in-out and around thunder storms.

Pilots N Paws is a program to save lives of innocent animals and rescue them from being euthanized. Nearly 1.5 million dogs are euthanized in the US each year.

DeafHawk and his service dog Tee will be at this year’s Oshkosh event at the Pipistrel booth sites 86 and 87 v, just inside the main entrance. Be sure to drop by for more information and photo opportunities etc.
