Commemorative Air Force Hosting Several Opportunities to Honor Veterans at SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In & Expo
WHAT: The CAF is bringing together three of their units to honor veterans at this year’s SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-in & Expo. There are several upcoming opportunities for the media to capture exciting images of the CAF Gulf Coast Wing, CAF Dixie Wing and the CAF Red Tail Squadron in action and learn more about their educational outreach programs at this year’s SUN ‘n FUN.
When: Monday, April 4
At 12:00 p.m., the B-17 Flying Fortress Texas Raiders and the P-51D Red Nose are scheduled to arrive at Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport, flying in two remarkable pieces of WWII history to SUN ‘n FUN. Then at 1:00 p.m., a media flight will be available on Texas Raiders. Tuesday, April 5
Join us at 9:00 a.m. for a press conference at the SUN ‘n FUN Media Center to learn about our exciting events honoring veterans during the Fly-in, including the inspirational RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit and how attendees can book a ride on the B-17 Texas Raiders!
Wednesday, April 6
All veterans aircrews from the WWII, Korea and Viet Nam eras are invited to attend a special event at the Warbird Ramp at 10:00 a.m. to watch the B-17 take to the air and see today’s crews alongside yesterday’s heroes! The event will include a meet and great with original Tuskegee Airmen and a special photo op at 11:00 a.m. of all participating veterans with the B-17 Flying Fortress and the P-51 Mustang aircraft.
Thursday, April 7
Four students from the Polk County School District’s Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA) will receive an award from the CAF Red Tail Squadron at 11:00 a.m. at the announcers stand. These students have exhibited the Six Guiding Principles of the CAF Red Tail Squadron - Aim High, Believe In Yourself, Use Your Brain, Be Ready To Go, Never Quit and Expect To Win.

Make sure to check out the FREE RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit mobile theater near the SUN ‘n FUN Museum and view the original film “Rise Above,” and learn more about the extraordinary Tuskegee Airmen. Visit the SUN ‘n FUN Warbird Ramp to tour the cockpit of the B-17 Texas Raiders and step inside a world of living history. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and $20 for a family of up to five members. Standard admission rates to SUN ‘n FUN apply.
