Milwaukee, WI –July 23, 2014– The EAA AirVenture Cup has welcomed Astronics Ballard Technology, who recently acquired the Vertical Power product line, as a major sponsor of the 2014AirVenture Cup Race. Vertical Power is the industry’s first Electronic Circuit Breaker System for experimental and light-sport aircraft.
Astronics Ballard Technology is donating two of their Vertical Power VP-X Pro electronic circuit breaker systems and accompanying wiring harnesses. The units will be awarded totwo participants in an experimental race class. "We are extremely pleased to be working alongside the EAA and other sponsors to support the AirVenture Cup," said Bill Schuh, VP of Sales for Astronics Ballard Technology. "Ballard has beeninvolved in commercial and military aviation for nearly three decades and now with our Vertical Power line, we are excited to be an active member of the experimental and LSA aircraft community."
The AirVenture Cup kicks off in Mitchell, SD (MHE) on Friday afternoon, July 25, with media flights in advance of an airport open house the following day, Saturday, July 26. The airport open house is a wings and wheels event this year, open to anyone arriving by car or by air and takes place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Race aircraft and show cars will be on display for public viewing. Some of the airplanes will be providing Young Eagles flights. In years past, the event has drawn more than 2,500 attendees and yielded in excess of 250 Young Eagles flights in a single day.
The race will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, and finish atWausau Municipal Airport (AUW) in Wisconsin, with one checkpoint in between, totaling approximately 400 miles. Theequipment donated by Vertical Power will directly support raceparticipants and be presented during the Awards Presentationheld on Sunday evening in Oshkosh (KOSH), where the race winners will be announced.
Cross country air racing has a long history in the U.S., starting in the early 1920s, and has been credited with many advances in aviation technology, speed and reliability of engines. The organization’s goal is to combine aviation history with innovation, new technologies and individual craftsmanship into one high-octane, fun-filled race that participants and spectators alike will enjoy.
